Hawaiian French Toast
This is my hands-down favorite breakfast food. Which isn't a tough competition given my dislike for most breakfast foods. (Breakfast sausage = nasty.) Using the sweet Hawaiian bread turns ordinary French toast into something spectacular! This is fairly sweet and very flavorful, so only a minimal amount of maple syrup is needed.
This is really fast to prepare, and as it turns out this is my new pre-run breakfast. I had this yesterday before I ran 5 miles and I had my best run time ever! Hello, magic French toast. I love you.
Hawaiian French Toast
1 round sweet Hawaiian bread loaf, cut into thick slices, slices halved
3 eggs
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp vanilla
Combine last 4 ingredients in a medium bowl and stir with a fork. Warm skillet with butter. When butter is melted and skillet is hot, dunk 1 slice of bread, hold for a second, then flip and repeat. Hold it above bowl and let excess drip off. Put in skillet and cook bread for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until fairly firm and no longer sloppy. Should be lightly browned.
Serve sprinkled with powdered sugar and drizzled lightly with maple syrup.
Recipe above is enough for half of a loaf, or 6-8 pieces.
